Epiכ FaiL!: The Road *YAWNS* To Wrestlemania

The Mad One February 23, 2012 9

Wrestlemania! Wooo who’s excited? Come on, admit that you can’t wait to see Rock Vs Cena in the exact build up they used last year, but this time he’s actually going to wrestle. What’s bigger than Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus for the WHC… try to forget that Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus for the US Title was such a boring prospect that it got bumped from the main card last year and ended up being a battle royal dark match, it’s going to set Miami on fire. C’mon, you guys have to be pumped to see Jericho Vs Punk, just look at the way WWE has built the “Best At What He Does” up since he returned. He didn’t talk, he lost the royal rumble, and then got knocked out of a gimmick match that saw Kofi Kingston take more damage. So what if Jericho has been booked to look like a loser he’s facing CM Punk for a very personal reason—gimmick infringement oooohhhhh. If that doesn’t get you excited to spend $50 bucks what about Undertaker Vs Triple H 3??? I know that rubber matches usually happen when the other guy wins a match but clearly Triple H going 1-2 Vs Taker at Mania will settle the debate…

What the hell is this crap?

The Road to Wrestlemania has been predictable as Booker T saying “fave five”. The theme seemed to be Old Generation Vs New Generation. Rock Vs Cena. CM Punk Vs Jericho. Then we had old vs old and new vs new thrown in just because they got lazy. How much more legit would it have been if Sheamus forfeited the WHC opportunity and went after the streak? Surely Taker’s streak means a hell of a lot more than the Big Gold Belt held by such legends as The Great Why’me. I’m firmly behind this new Daniel Bryan push (I can see DB and AJ being the new Edge and Lita) but I think WWE is leaving money on the table with Orton Vs Bryan. An RKO feud could have really taken DB into Flair territory as far as cowardly heels go and given Orton a reason to show a 3rd dimension to his relatively flat Face run. As far as parading Triple H out for a meaningful match, you can’t tell me Cody Rhodes isn’t ready for a monster match with one of the greatest. A win over Trips would launch Cody into the main event instantly.

Wrestlemania is about having moments, and I’m sure Rock and Cena and Jericho and Punk will provide that, but all four of those names have been established as Hall of Famers, why aren’t the new guys being built up by facing the legends??? If we learned anything from last year’s mediocre show is that Attitude Era fans didn’t stick around. Rock fans didn’t become Miz fans because WWE never used Rock to put any one over, he just put heat on Cena to the point where they could market “Hate Shirts” and “Boots to A$$es”. Jericho has done nothing to take the Punk feud to the next level. If they bump him in favor of a Chris Brown gimmick match I wouldn’t be surprised because Punk seems more passionate about an old school Mr.T/Roddy Piper style celebrity shoot match than wrestling a washed up Jericho. I admit that Triple H vs Taker’s build up has been good and it made me actually care, but it’s not a dream match. Taker’s going to hit 20 wins by beating the same guy 3 times. Snooze.

The fans want something fresh, as proof by Santino getting the Rocky love at the Chamber. We know Santino isn’t winning the title, but they should pay attention to the audiences hunger for something different. Wrestlemania use to be where stars are made, but recently it’s become where the establishment wrestles the establishment. It’s still time to add some drama to the event, but I fear that with the main event being as big as it is, they’ll simply coast with what they have.

agree on everything, except the D-bry match… in regards to it wasn’t good enough for the crad. That would have been great at last years wrestlemania.

  • Frad

Yeah this problem will be worse when most of these superstars retire and they have lack of stars to take the torch if they aren’t pushed.

  • monkey

You continue to ignore the monkey, Mad one. You can complain but face it after Wrestlemania we’re back to the same old thing. And no not the old wrestlers (y2j might job to CM punk a few more times after Wrestlemania due to being shortened for other matches, but he’ll leave) the new guys. The boring new guys, not the cool new guys like Santino and Swagger but guys like and Ziggler and Daniel Bryan. So what one guy who thinks he can make WWE better with his articles is uninterested, a lot of people will be happy to actually have something entertaining to watch on the road to mania. WWE puts effort into the road to mania and Vince wants money to be made at mania. Sure he wants to make money off of Raw, but the greats have come and gone and if mania and the road to, are the only times he can make guaranteed money, so be it.
    no joke.

I completely disagree. The build up for mania hasn’t really got started yet and I am very intrigued about every match announced so far, even Triple H Undertaker, which to be honest I would have hated to see again if it wasn’t for the hell in a cell stipulation. I don’t think that we’ve seen enough build up to judge it but in terms of the booked matches this looks to me like the best wrestlemania upper card in a long time

Well this Mania is really all about drawing huge numbers. There are 11 more pay-per-views in the year.. a young guy shouldnt get his push at Mania.. he should get it before going to Mania.

I know you don’t like the build up.. I think its okay.. but it could be better. We still have 5 more RAW episodes before Mania. Thats enough time for something to hit the build up in the ass to get it very entertaining.

Plez don’t say u want Rock to push Cena by loosing. He already lost to Goldberg and Brock. This time I want Cena’s Ass kicked by Rock. Bcs, Cena is @ fault. Firstly, he wanted Rock to appear atleast a few times here and there for wrestling fans. And when he did that, Cena started more Bitching. Cena is jealous of Rock and hence, Rock shd put him in his place. After this feud, we can talk abt business not this time round.

One last advice. Wwe will leave its best if it thinks abt the present and not the future. When future becomes present it will take care of itself.

WWE has already made the mistake in the past and hell present of putting personal issues over the world titles. It would make no sense for Sheamus to pass up the belt just to get beat by Taker. You talk about building towards Wrestlemania how the hell does it make sense for Sheamus to go after the streak unless he pulls an Orton but if that’s the case it seems he would want Triple H since they at least HAD some history. I apologize for that long ass sentence.

And to be clear I don’t want that at least not now. As far as Jericho being washed up he’s still a great talent and is very versatile in the ring. And Rhodes would be better at defending the IC that beating Triple H for whatever the hell reason. At least to me that would make me care and once again put the titles first.

And the WWE did use the Rock to put over people however Lesnar and Goldberg aren’t around anymore so all that work was for nothing.
