Wrestlemania! Wooo who’s excited? Come on, admit that you can’t wait to see Rock Vs Cena in the exact build up they used last year, but this time he’s actually going to wrestle. What’s bigger than Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus for the WHC… try to forget that Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus for the US Title was such a boring prospect that it got bumped from the main card last year and ended up being a battle royal dark match, it’s going to set Miami on fire. C’mon, you guys have to be pumped to see Jericho Vs Punk, just look at the way WWE has built the “Best At What He Does” up since he returned. He didn’t talk, he lost the royal rumble, and then got knocked out of a gimmick match that saw Kofi Kingston take more damage. So what if Jericho has been booked to look like a loser he’s facing CM Punk for a very personal reason—gimmick infringement oooohhhhh. If that doesn’t get you excited to spend $50 bucks what about Undertaker Vs Triple H 3??? I know that rubber matches usually happen when the other guy wins a match but clearly Triple H going 1-2 Vs Taker at Mania will settle the debate…
What the hell is this crap?
The Road to Wrestlemania has been predictable as Booker T saying “fave five”. The theme seemed to be Old Generation Vs New Generation. Rock Vs Cena. CM Punk Vs Jericho. Then we had old vs old and new vs new thrown in just because they got lazy. How much more legit would it have been if Sheamus forfeited the WHC opportunity and went after the streak? Surely Taker’s streak means a hell of a lot more than the Big Gold Belt held by such legends as The Great Why’me. I’m firmly behind this new Daniel Bryan push (I can see DB and AJ being the new Edge and Lita) but I think WWE is leaving money on the table with Orton Vs Bryan. An RKO feud could have really taken DB into Flair territory as far as cowardly heels go and given Orton a reason to show a 3rd dimension to his relatively flat Face run. As far as parading Triple H out for a meaningful match, you can’t tell me Cody Rhodes isn’t ready for a monster match with one of the greatest. A win over Trips would launch Cody into the main event instantly.
Wrestlemania is about having moments, and I’m sure Rock and Cena and Jericho and Punk will provide that, but all four of those names have been established as Hall of Famers, why aren’t the new guys being built up by facing the legends??? If we learned anything from last year’s mediocre show is that Attitude Era fans didn’t stick around. Rock fans didn’t become Miz fans because WWE never used Rock to put any one over, he just put heat on Cena to the point where they could market “Hate Shirts” and “Boots to A$$es”. Jericho has done nothing to take the Punk feud to the next level. If they bump him in favor of a Chris Brown gimmick match I wouldn’t be surprised because Punk seems more passionate about an old school Mr.T/Roddy Piper style celebrity shoot match than wrestling a washed up Jericho. I admit that Triple H vs Taker’s build up has been good and it made me actually care, but it’s not a dream match. Taker’s going to hit 20 wins by beating the same guy 3 times. Snooze.
The fans want something fresh, as proof by Santino getting the Rocky love at the Chamber. We know Santino isn’t winning the title, but they should pay attention to the audiences hunger for something different. Wrestlemania use to be where stars are made, but recently it’s become where the establishment wrestles the establishment. It’s still time to add some drama to the event, but I fear that with the main event being as big as it is, they’ll simply coast with what they have.
