What’s so special about Sheamus? I’ll admit that I’m bias when it comes to certain wrestlers, but in the case of Sheamus I’ve tried to look at his appeal from all angles. He’s an okay brawler with a few decent power moves but nowhere near as well rounded as Triple H at the same age. On the mic he’s pretty damn generic, and without the accent he would be as mediocre as Lex Luger was. Most importantly I look at the audience reaction. When Sheamus was going toe to toe with Jericho damn near every fan was thinking, “Please don’t let Sheamus win” the crowd wasn’t nearly as hot as it should have been. I wasn’t expecting the same response that Taker Vs HBK got at the end of the Rumble, but Santino had a bigger pop last year. Sheamus hasn’t inspired the audience to have passion for him even though he’s been giving every damn title in the wwe. Why? Because not all WWE fans are sheep who cheer because you tell us too. As much as the smarks love to point out how stupid the average fans who don’t visit the dirt sheets every day are, I think it speaks volumes that WWE fans aren’t willing to let WWE creative dictate who they support. Mason Ryan is just as popular as Sheamus is, with a fraction of the screen time and that pisses WWE creative off. We don’t want the wrestling world talking about Jericho or want to pop the crowd by having Undertaker come in at #30, we want to make a statement– Sheamus is a superstar… WTF? The Royal Rumble was booked for one thing—to make Sheamus the next big thing. The problem is Sheamus has been given NBT opportunity time and time again and has yet to grab the brass ring.
The Cena Push: How do you get a young heel over in the wwe the fastest? Have him beat John Cena. Sheamus put Cena through a table– twice. Everyone over the age of 12 loved it, it was supposed to be the beginning of a new era with Sheamus as the anti-Cena monster heel. Didn’t really get the reaction they were expecting so it became Cena Vs Batista that drove us to Wrestlemania.
The Triple H Push: So you don’t get to Headline Mania, the next best thing is wrestling the legendary Triple H. This match was really good. If anything this was the moment where the fans should have said, “He went toe to toe with The Game wow” but they shrugged it off and forgot about it.
2nd Title Push: The world was talking about Nexus, but who was the WWE champion? Sheamus. You don’t remember the summer of Sheamus because it was about as exciting as Josh Matthews reading the dictionary.
King of The Ring Push: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I’m getting bored just writing about the guy. Sheamus had every opportunity handed to him. Maybe because he’s Hunter’s “boy” maybe because he has a cool look, maybe because he appeals to the European market. It doesn’t matter why he was given the world on a silver platter, the point is he hasn’t done a damn thing to make me think he’s worthy of all of this attention. The WWE is doing a great injustice to the fans by continuing to shove this pasty clown down our throats and I’m sick of it! On WWE 12 the video game they make you start off as Sheamus in the Wrestlemania mode. They MAKE you play as this turd because they want every kid in America to experience the greatness that is Sheamus… ARE YOU KIDDING ME BRO!?! If Matt Hardy would have been given half of those opportunities his life wouldn’t be crap right now. Eddie Guerrero pushed himself to an early grave trying to get the front office to believe in him. This guy Sheamus doesn’t draw a DIME, and he’s going to Wrestlemania because someone has a fetish for “The Great White”.
This was a perfect year to do something special. You have Rock and Cena guaranteeing that Wrestlemania sells out and does 1 million PPV buys. You had Jericho and CM Punk happening regardless. So why not take a chance on someone who’s never had a championship reign? Why make Zack Ryder John Cena’s gay lover all of a sudden and take him out of the Rumble? Why not give it to a jobber with potential like Kofi or Jay Uso just to prove that anything can happen. Usually I hope for 5 star matches across the board, but at Wrestlemania 28 I hope the fans either chant Daniel Bryan’s name throughout the match with Sheamus or sit on their hands and let the WWE know that we’re not going to be forced fed the same guy over and over again. It’s not working give someone else a shot.
