Epiכ FaiL!: The Never Ending Sheamus Push

The Mad One January 31, 2012 16

What’s so special about Sheamus? I’ll admit that I’m bias when it comes to certain wrestlers, but in the case of Sheamus I’ve tried to look at his appeal from all angles. He’s an okay brawler with a few decent power moves but nowhere near as well rounded as Triple H at the same age. On the mic he’s pretty damn generic, and without the accent he would be as mediocre as Lex Luger was. Most importantly I look at the audience reaction. When Sheamus was going toe to toe with Jericho damn near every fan was thinking, “Please don’t let Sheamus win” the crowd wasn’t nearly as hot as it should have been. I wasn’t expecting the same response that Taker Vs HBK got at the end of the Rumble, but Santino had a bigger pop last year. Sheamus hasn’t inspired the audience to have passion for him even though he’s been giving every damn title in the wwe. Why? Because not all WWE fans are sheep who cheer because you tell us too. As much as the smarks love to point out how stupid the average fans who don’t visit the dirt sheets every day are, I think it speaks volumes that WWE fans aren’t willing to let WWE creative dictate who they support. Mason Ryan is just as popular as Sheamus is, with a fraction of the screen time and that pisses WWE creative off. We don’t want the wrestling world talking about Jericho or want to pop the crowd by having Undertaker come in at #30, we want to make a statement– Sheamus is a superstar… WTF? The Royal Rumble was booked for one thing—to make Sheamus the next big thing. The problem is Sheamus has been given NBT opportunity time and time again and has yet to grab the brass ring.

The Cena Push: How do you get a young heel over in the wwe the fastest? Have him beat John Cena. Sheamus put Cena through a table– twice. Everyone over the age of 12 loved it, it was supposed to be the beginning of a new era with Sheamus as the anti-Cena monster heel. Didn’t really get the reaction they were expecting so it became Cena Vs Batista that drove us to Wrestlemania.

The Triple H Push: So you don’t get to Headline Mania, the next best thing is wrestling the legendary Triple H. This match was really good. If anything this was the moment where the fans should have said, “He went toe to toe with The Game wow” but they shrugged it off and forgot about it.

2nd Title Push: The world was talking about Nexus, but who was the WWE champion? Sheamus. You don’t remember the summer of Sheamus because it was about as exciting as Josh Matthews reading the dictionary.

King of The Ring Push: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I’m getting bored just writing about the guy. Sheamus had every opportunity handed to him. Maybe because he’s Hunter’s “boy” maybe because he has a cool look, maybe because he appeals to the European market. It doesn’t matter why he was given the world on a silver platter, the point is he hasn’t done a damn thing to make me think he’s worthy of all of this attention. The WWE is doing a great injustice to the fans by continuing to shove this pasty clown down our throats and I’m sick of it! On WWE 12 the video game they make you start off as Sheamus in the Wrestlemania mode. They MAKE you play as this turd because they want every kid in America to experience the greatness that is Sheamus… ARE YOU KIDDING ME BRO!?! If Matt Hardy would have been given half of those opportunities his life wouldn’t be crap right now. Eddie Guerrero pushed himself to an early grave trying to get the front office to believe in him. This guy Sheamus doesn’t draw a DIME, and he’s going to Wrestlemania because someone has a fetish for “The Great White”.

This was a perfect year to do something special. You have Rock and Cena guaranteeing that Wrestlemania sells out and does 1 million PPV buys. You had Jericho and CM Punk happening regardless. So why not take a chance on someone who’s never had a championship reign? Why make Zack Ryder John Cena’s gay lover all of a sudden and take him out of the Rumble? Why not give it to a jobber with potential like Kofi or Jay Uso just to prove that anything can happen. Usually I hope for 5 star matches across the board, but at Wrestlemania 28 I hope the fans either chant Daniel Bryan’s name throughout the match with Sheamus or sit on their hands and let the WWE know that we’re not going to be forced fed the same guy over and over again. It’s not working give someone else a shot.

Your a mad alright, to say sheamus push is not working. Sheamus has been one of the brightest young stars to come into the wwe in a long time. I remember when he first came into the wwe, sheamus bulldozed his way through the entire wwe roster. He set a really high standard, that most of the wrestlers couldn’t even keep up with. I mean for god sake, for a season veteran like randy orton to give sheamus probs,(considering randy orton hardly ever praises young up coming talent) speaks for itself.I’ll admit though that it is true, that sheamus is not on the same level as triple h was when triple h was his age, But the guy is undoubtedly talented. An I believe wwe, has a bright future with the lights of sheamus, wade barrett, cody rhodes, dolph ziggler coming to the fray. An slowly becoming the next generation of GENUINE wwe superstars.

I agree… but to add to your last sentence, Tyson Kidd. Tyler Reks, and Trent Baretta

I completely understand with that you said about letting a jobber win the Royal Rumble and to take a chance.. but nobody thought that was a good idea.
I don’t mind Sheamus winning the Rumble and going on to have an important match at this years Mania, but If I was in charge, I would have had Tyson Kidd or Jack Swagger win the Rumble. As for Sheamus being over pushed… he’s not the only one. Look at Del Rio, Miz, Orton, Rey, John Cena! All those guys have gotten a lot when WWE creative should have given some of that push to some guys like Tyson, Swagger, Reks, Barretta, Hawkins, ect.
But overrall.. I like that Sheamus has won the Royal Rumble.

So you think that nobody wanted a jobber to win the Rumble, yet you wanted Tyson Kidd – a jobber- to win the rumble?

Nobody but me thought it was a good idea.

Even being a Huge Sheamus mark myself, His first push, and king of the ring was well lackluster at best, but I think they built him up just right to win the rumble with a little stumble before But great article!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000704587146 Josue Gregorio

Yeah, when he won the WWE title twice, it as only won by him because someone interfered or the other guy fucked up. The first 2 WWE pushes were awful.

Sheamus’s push as a heel did not work because he was booked as a chicken shit, but as a babyface he showed he is worthy of being the 2012 RR winner, plus, WWE did it’s best to downplay the royal rumble PPV, everyone were going through the motions with the exception of sheamus, he was the only guy in the whole ACTIVE roster (I emphasize active because mick foley also gave a ton of effort) who actually gave a shit, he was the first to even MENTION that the royal rumble was coming at the time…why wouldnt he win? he was the only one who gave a crap, plus he is the most effective babyface on smackdown so…yeah give him a shot. and btw if anyone actually wanted y2j to win the rumble with all due respect to the guy please slap youreself in the face because that is not a possibility in my book.
